The Writers in Paradise evening readings continue this week. All readings will take place in the Miller Auditorium at Eckerd College, 4200 54th Ave. S, St. Petersburg. Books will be available for purchase on site. All readings are free and open to the public. writersinparadise.com.

7 p.m. Jan. 14: novelist Stewart O'Nan (City of Secrets) and YA writer Laura McCaffrey (Marked)

7 p.m. Jan. 15: novelists Tim Dorsey (Clownfish Blues) and Laura Lippman (Sunburn)

7 p.m. Jan. 16: novelist Sterling Watson (Suitcase City), St. Petersburg poet laureate Helen Pruitt Wallace (Shimming the Glass House) and poet Major Jackson (Roll Deep)

7 p.m. Jan. 18: novelist Cathie Pelletier (A Year After Henry), novelist and memoirist Andre Dubus III (Dirty Love) and novelist Lan Samantha Chang (All Is Forgotten, Nothing Is Lost)

7 p.m. Jan. 19: fiction and nonfiction writer Les Standiford (Water to the Angels: William Mulholland, His Monumental Aqueduct and the Rise of Los Angeles), Florida poet laureate and fiction writer Peter Meinke (To Start With, Feel Fortunate) and novelist and memoirist Ann Hood (The Book That Matters Most)

8 p.m. Jan. 20: novelist Russell Banks (A Permanent Member of the Family); onstage Q&A with Les Standiford

The St. Petersburg Museum of History's Happy Hour With the Historian series presents Kirkus Prize winner Jack E. Davis (The Gulf: The Making of an American Sea) discussing his book at 6:30 p.m. Jan. 18 at 335 Second Ave. NE, St. Petersburg. Cash bar; suggested admission donation $5, free for museum members.

The University of South Florida St. Petersburg launches Salt Creek Journal with a reception and reading at 6 p.m. Jan. 19 at the Edge, Coquina Hall, on the USFSP campus, 140 Seventh Ave. S. The journal, by USFSP students and community authors, brings together essays, poems, photographs and historic archives about a fragmented stream in south St. Petersburg.
